There’s little to match Ottoman textiles for eye-popping flower power. Narcissi, hyacinths, tulips, carnations, and roses are elegantly stylized and picked out in exquisite colour, their bold arrangements refined in their relative simplicity.

Trebizond is based on a typically beautiful silk-embroidered linen panel of the 18th century and superimposes alternating bands of tulips and pomegranates on a blue diamond lattice. Spotting it on a London auction site, we knew, instantly, that we’d adapt it for screen printing. We tried valiantly to give a sense of the woven original’s charming surface wear, and the chosen base cloth has a subtle sheen.
