Amaze

Amaze has been painstakingly redrawn – with a few added twists and turns – from an English fabric sample of the first half of the 19th century, and these “angular stems” or bâtons rompus seem simultaneously antique and modern.

The diagonals pack real energy, overlapping helter-skelter in a lattice of pure abstract fancy. Printed slightly larger than the original, what may seem almost dainty in one application could strike you as rather bold in another. Either way, it’s a relatively small-scale pattern perfect for a layered interior scheme.
